BBC Trust to enter consultation for Project Canvas
The BBC Trust is to launch a consultation into IPTV service Project Canvas.
The BBC Trust is to launch a consultation into IPTV service Project Canvas.
Canvas, an open platform for broadcasters, is being backed by the BBC, BT and ITV as a way to deliver on-demand content as well as high definition Freeview to TV.
The Trust consultation follows last month’s collapse of video-on-demand service Kangaroo, which was blocked by the Competition Commission.
The BBC Trust will determine whether Canvas is in the interest of the licence-fee payers in addition to gauging its impact on the market.
A BBC spokeswoman confirmed the consultation process was due to start ‘fairly soon’. The service is planned to launch in 2010 pending Trust approval.
