BBC Worldwide appoints Lifestyle ad chief

BBC Worldwide has promoted Susannah John, the ad manager for its Lifestyle Group of magazines, to advertising director for the unit.

John takes over from Justine Southall, who has held the position at the same time as being publisher of Eve.

Southall will continue solely as publisher of Eve, which launched in August, and report to publishing director Seamus Geoghegan, as will John.

In her new role, John will oversee advertising for Eve, BBC Good Food, BBC Gardeners’ World, Gardens Illustrated, BBC Homes & Antiques and BBC Good Homes. Their total sales are over 1 million a month, apart from Eve, which has yet to be audited.

John will manage the magazines across all their revenue streams such as display, advertorials, classified and inserts.

She became head of advertising last Christmas after Southall restructured the Lifestyle unit.

The new structure integrated the sales operations, so clients could work with the magazines by title, by category, by type of advertising, such as advertorial, insert or display, by group, by client or by any combination of these.

The magazine brands have been extended into other areas including exhibitions, live events, books, videos and beeb.com
