BBC2 hires new marketing chief

BBC Broadcast has appointed Unilever marketing manager Simon Bell as its new head of BBC2 marketing.

Bell who has worked for Unilever’s personal care division Elida Fabergé for more than 11 years, will report to the new controller of TV marketing Maureen Duffy.

His appointment is the latest in a series of new marketing posts at BBC Broadcast, under the leadership of BBC Broadcast director for marketing and communications Sue Farr.

For the past two years Bell has worked as UK marketing manager for Unilever’s skin, dental and personal wash category, covering brands such as Dove, Lux, Ponds and Signal, with responsibilities for Vaseline across Europe. Prior to that he spent five years in Paris, including two years at the hair innovation centre where he developed the Organics brand.

He says: “I am used to managing and marketing high value-added style brands, so switching to marketing BBC2 is not going to be completely dissimilar.”

Bell will be replaced at Elida Fabergé by Robyn Kemsley, who already manages Impulse and Vaseline deodorant.

BBC Broadcast has yet to announce the appointment of a head of public service digital channels marketing.
