BG arm to offer mobile phones

British Gas Trading has teamed up with Vodafone to offer its customers cheap mobile phones.

Under the deal, BGT customers can buy a phone for 69.99, with calls from 5p per minute through Vodafone’s Pay As You Talk service.

Vodafone is also offering 10 worth of free calls and BGT is providing a 25 Pay As You Talk credit voucher.

The phones are being sold through BGT’s 240 shops nationwide. A leaflet announcing the deal will be included with the bills that the gas supplier sends to its customers.

Jon Kinsey, marketing director of BGT, says: “We want to establish ourselves as a value for money brand. [This] is unique. It extends our product portfolio and we are able to offer something to our gas customers that is very different.”

BGT already has an alliance with Sainsbury’s Reward Card, which gives cardholders 1,000 reward points and a price guarantee on electricity until 2001 if they sign up with BGT.
