The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has launched a £2m international marketing campaign to boost visitor level to the capital today (March 23).

Johnson (pictured) unveiled the London Development Agency funded global campaign atop the London Eye this morning. It claims it should deliver a £60m boost to the capital’s economy by the end of the year, following a £600k boost as a result of Visit London’s winter marketing push.

The campaign is titled ‘Only in London’ and will focus on “unique” experiences available in the city, such as the Eye and Wimbledon.

The LDA funding for the campaign has been earmarked as part of Johnson’s £3bn Economic Recovery Action Plan designed to find ways to boost the city’s economy during the recession

Visit London is currently being run by interim chief executive Sally Chatterjee, who took-over when former chief James Bidwell stood down earlier than expected last November.

Formerly deputy chief executive, Chatterjee oversees all marketing, communications and commercial partnerships for the tourist body.
