Axa wanted a populist communication vehicle with a presence and breadth of activity to engender pride and a sense of common identity. The FA Cup provided the perfect channel, and spontaneous brand awareness rose from three per cent to 15 per cent, and prompted awareness from 28 per cent to 51 per cent.
