J Walter Thompson and Dell Computer Corporation are suing each other in the US. The legal proceedings have arisen following Dell’s dismissal of JWT as its global ad agency last September.

Somerfield has shortlisted Leo Burnett, McCann-Erickson and J Walter Thompson for its 12m advertising review after eliminating O&M and Grey.

EMVI has shortlisted Bates Dorland, Byron Advertising and Delaney Fletcher Bozell for the Harmony haircare advertising account, worth an estimated 5m.

Identica Partnership, the design consultancy headed by Michael Peters, has merged with retail graphics specialist Tango Design as part of a deal with Tango’s ad agency parent Bartle Bogle Hegarty, in which BBH takes a 21 per cent stake in the merged company. The deal increases Identica’s turnover by about 50 per cent to 10m.

…Glasgow has briefed 1576 to create a TV, radio, press and poster campaign for it as the 1999 UK City of Architecture and Design. The campaign breaks on Boxing Day and runs until January 17.

Shelter, the charity for the homeless, runs its first national advertising campaign this week, spending 250,000 on a press campaign encouraging vulnerable people facing homelessness to call a helpline. Creative work is by DP&A and media is through Zebra.

The Famous Grouse will feature in two new TV commercials as part of the brand’s biggest Christmas campaign to date. The ads are through Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO.
