The Energy Savers Club and Climate Aware programmes are a series of measures and initiatives that aim to help consumers save money, reduce energy consumption and offset their carbon emissions.

As part of the Energy Savers Club, a tailor-made online energy efficiency plan will be designed for customers to help them improve the energy rating of their homes. They will be eligible for exclusive discounts on energy-efficiency products and receive renewably generated electricity at no extra cost. The offer will last for two years.

Climate Aware, the second tier of the strategy, allows consumers to offset their carbon emissions. The initiative allows householders to take responsibility for the impact of their energy use on the environment and manage their energy consumption.

Customers who sign up to Climate Aware pay a contribution of about &£30, which will then be given to environmentally friendly projects in developing countries to offset the carbon emissions.

British Gas says it is targeting customers interested in green issues using a mix of e-mails and advertising in the national and lifestyle press, and also via its website, house.co.uk.
