British Gas Services loses top man

British Gas Services (BGS) is losing marketing and sales director Kevin Mahoney, who is leaving the company after less than a year in the middle of an agency review which he initiated.

The company, which is the central heating and servicing arm of Centrica, called a review of its 4m advertising account held by TBWA Simons Palmer two weeks ago (MW August 7).

Mahoney is leaving on Sept- ember 12 to take up the post of UK managing director of ISS, the Danish catering, cleaning and security services multinational.

He comments: “It is with some regret that I am leaving, but the offer to join ISS as its UK managing director was an opportunity and challenge that was too good to miss.” BGS has yet to announce his successor.

Mahoney joined BGS last November with a brief to develop products and other marketing opportunities. He replaced marketing director Alan Johnson, who was retiring. Mahoney was previously managing director of WH Smith Business Supplies.

It is understood that the company’s shortlist of agencies, which includes Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe and Lowe Howard-Spink, has been withdrawn. A BGS spokesman says a definite list had not yet been decided.
