British Red Cross goes online to recruit young

Red%20RecruitThe British Red Cross is seeking to recruit new volunteers through a new online marketing strategy. It aims to raise awareness and engagement with young people online.

The Red Recruits programme will include a portal site set up for online supporters to share campaign ideas for the charity. The strategy has been developed by digital agency LBi.

Members will be able to communicate with each other on a peer-to-peer basis and participate in consultations about the future direction of digital activity and youth initiatives on the new microsite.

British Red Cross head of new media Dorothea Arndt says the scheme is intended to expand on the support already expressed for the charity on sites such as Facebook.

She says: “Increasingly, we are seeing more and more supporters organising activities in support of the Red Cross through online networks and forums. The Red Recruits scheme is about engaging with and recognising these supporters in a far more comprehensive way, then working together to deliver greater awareness about our campaigns and activities.”

The new Red Recruits portal will work alongside online campaigns such as the current Civilians in Conflict appeal.

Members will also be among the first to know about volunteer opportunities and new campaigns responding to conflicts or natural disasters around the world.
