C4 hunts ER and Eurotrash sponsorship

Channel 4 is seeking sponsors for its top-rated programme ER and controversial comedy Eurotrash.

C4’s sponsorship manager David Charlesworth says they are part of a hit-list of programmes being specially targeted at advertisers. He says the list includes a sitcom weekend in May, the Tour de France and Football Italia.

The second series of ER will be repeated in July, with a new series due to begin in 1998. “We would like to have a sponsor for the repeat and the new series to maintain continuity,” he says.

Charlesworth says the ITC’s new code of sponsorship prohibits health insurance companies from sponsoring ER.

A new series of Eurotrash begins in May. Charlesworth says sponsors would have to be a bit tongue-in-cheek to fit with its irreverent image.
