Cadbury boss returns to Australia

Cadbury Trebor Bassett’s UK marketing director Mark Smith is returning to his homeland of Australia to take up the position of managing director of confectionery for Australia and New Zealand.

Smith will take up the position next spring. Cadbury has yet to announce a replacement in the UK.

A Cadbury Trebor Bassett spokesman says: “This appointment reflects the success that Smith has delivered during his three years with Cadbury, latterly with Cadbury Trebor Bassett.”

Smith became UK marketing director role for Cadbury in 1998. He was previously vice-president of marketing and technicals for Cadbury Schweppes’ US subsidiary Mott’s, which sells sauces and fruit drinks.

Earlier this year, Smith landed the top UK marketing role when Cadbury Schweppes merged its Trebor Bassett sugar confectionery division with its Cadbury chocolate division.

Kevin White, formerly commercial director of Trebor Bassett, was made sales director of the merged organisation. He subsequently left to take up a position at pharmaceutical company Novartis Consumer Health UK.

Smith’s current role is the largest confectionery marketing position in the UK, covering 30 per cent of the UK market.
