Cadbury Café set for nationwide expansion

Confectionery company Cadbury Trebor Bassett is set to expand its Cadbury Café concept a year after opening its trial store in Bath.

Confectionery company Cadbury Trebor Bassett is set to expand its Cadbury Café concept a year after opening its trial store in Bath.

Sources say the company is now in talks with property agents and market researchers to open another three or four branches of Café Cadbury in as yet undisclosed locations.

It has been exactly a year since the trial site was opened in the Grade II-listed building in Bath.

A spokesman for Cadbury Trebor Bassett says the venture has proved “highly successful” and confirms that expansion plans are well in progress.

More than 50 new lines have been developed for the café, including sorbets, herb-flavoured chocolates and sandwiches. The project has been specially designed not to compete with traditional Cadbury lines.

The three floor café was designed by brand consultancy Marketplace, and comprises a restaurant, sweet shop and “relaxation area”.

Cadbury Trebor Bassett spokesman says: “Café Cadbury is not simply a new retail operation, it is about bringing the Cadbury name to a wider market.”

Though the company remains tight-lipped about the number of cafes it hopes to open, insiders say the plans are for a nationwide expansion.
