The future ownership of Camelot is thought to be down to a battle between private equity group CVC and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP).

A decision is believed to be imminent on who will be successful.

Camelot is owned by five shareholders, Royal Mail, Cadbury, Thales, De La Rue and Fujitsu. They have all put their stakes up for sale.

Initially several companies and partnerships were interested in taking over the company, including one involving Sir Richard Branson.

Camelot began its third national lottery licence last year after being granted the remit by the National Lottery Commission (NLC).

The company has also asked the NLC whether it can have permission to bid to operate commercial services, such as offering mobile top-up.

Camelot has just repositioned its National Lottery Scratchcard brands to introduce more “fun” into the games . The new strapline for marketing is “Put some play in your day.”
