Campbell’s takes on second P&G marketer

Campbell’s UK has appointed Paul Churchill as category marketing director for meal solutions. He joins the food company from Procter & Gamble (P&G) where he was marketing manager for Ariel across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

He will be responsible for the Homepride, Campbell’s Soups and Fray Bentos brands. He replaces interim marketing director David Bolsher, who will stay with the team until Churchill joins in November.

The UK marketing department has undergone a restructure in the past year, following the appointment of marketing director Tim Perman (MW August 22, 2002). Homepride marketing controller Jon Elms; Paul Bairstow, who headed the Cup a Soup brand; and strategic marketing and research manager Steve Morris all left earlier this year (MW March 27).

These moves followed the departure of managing director Alison Levett and European category director for sauces and flavourings Andrew Slamin at the end of 2002 (MW October 10, 2002).

Churchill is the second former P&G marketer to join Campbell’s this year. Peter Weider, who was with P&G for 12 years, joined Campbell’s as European vice-president for marketing in July (MW June 5).

Churchill worked at P&G for nine years and had responsibility for a number of brands, including Pantene and Oil of Olay, in Austria.
