Capital picks date for first Vaughan slot

Capital Radio Group is launching the Johnny Vaughan breakfast show, on 95.8 Capital FM, on April 19.

Veteran DJ Chris Tarrant will end his 17-year reign as the host of London’s most popular breakfast show on April 2.

It is not clear what the show’s format is going to be, but industry insiders suggest that Vaughan is likely to have an on-air crew around him.

The show will continue to be sponsored by Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, which signed up as the first breakfast show sponsor in January 2003 (MW December 19, 2002). Chris Brookes, the station’s weekend afternoon host, will cover the show until Vaughan starts.

The decision to appoint Vaughan is part of 95.8 Capital FM’s repositioning as a station for 25- to 34-year-olds, a strategy spearheaded by the station’s managing director Keith Pringle.

Capital will back the launch of Vaughan’s show with an advertising campaign created by Delaney Lund Knox Warren & Partners.
