Adidas has awarded its 50m European media buying account to Carat Group.
Adidas has awarded its 50m European media buying account to Carat Group.
It is understood to have beaten Optimedia, Initiative, and Media Insight, which is part of MindShare.
The sports clothing and shoe manufacturer has also appointed a new Amsterdam-based creative agency, called 180, to handle European project work. The agency has been set up by three former employees of Nike’s agency Wieden & Kennedy.
London-based BMP.DDB and Circus had also pitched for the same business.
180 will have to work alongside Leagas Delaney, Adidas’ lead global agency.
Neil Simpson, Adidas’ global advertising director, says: “It was well known in the industry that Adidas wanted to add more creative talent to its agency roster.”
Two of the founding 180 agency members, Chris Mendola and Alex Melvin, were reportedly dismissed from Wieden’s Amsterdam office for working on the Adidas pitch earlier in the year.
They pitched with creative director Larry Frey, who is understood to have resigned last month from Wieden’s Tokyo office.
