Carlsberg UK CEO in abrupt departure

CarlsbergCarlsberg chief executive Doug Clydesdale is leaving the company in a sudden departure after 11 years with the company. He will be replaced by the chief executive of Carlsberg South East Europe, Issac Sheps.

Clydesdale had been in the chief executive role for three years and was previously the managing director of brands and sales in Carlsberg UK, covering the on-trade and take-home sales divisions and marketing. He joined Carlsberg in 1998.

Sheps will take over his new role next week, but he will continue to keep his job at Carlsberg South East Europe until the end of the year.

A Carlsberg spokesman says: “Carlsberg UK has clearly demonstrated good improvements over the past years, and now it is an appropriate time for change in leadership to further maximise earnings in a very challenging market.

A spokeswoman denies that Clydesdale has been “fired” from the brewer.
