Channel 4 promotes director of TV in restructure

Channel 4 has promoted director of television Kevin Lygo to the new role of director of television and content as the broadcaster looks to develop its mobile, online and radio ambitions.

The restructure also sees Julian Bellamy return from the BBC as programme head of Channel 4.

Chief executive Andy Duncan says the restructure was needed because the broadcaster is now commissioning and distributing content across “a broad array of digital platforms”. He adds that the commissioning structure needed to reflect this.

Lygo was rumoured to be an ITV target for Michael Grade, after the former BBC chairman agreed to join the commercial broadcaster as executive chairman last year.

Lygo will now be tasked with the development of the schedules of any new 4-branded digital TV channels and will take a more active role in content for online and mobile. He will also work alongside director of radio Nathalie Schwarz if Channel 4’s bid for second national DAB multiplex is successful.

Bellamy, who will return to Channel 4 after a stint as Controller of BBC Three, will report to Lygo.
