AOL UK’s chief marketing officer Tobin Ireland is to leave the internet company after cuts to the marketing department.
It is understood the role is being axed although a head of marketing position will remain.
Ireland, a former commercial director of BSkyB’s Sky Interactive division, was appointed as AOL UK’s first chief marketing officer in October 2005. Previously, he was acting vice-president of strategy at the company.
It follows the sale of AOL’s UK internet access business to Carphone Warehouse for £370m last October. The UK business is now run by managing director Andy Jonesco, previously AOL UK’s vice-president of audience. The business is currently consulting on staff redundancies as part of its restructuring, which could see up to 100 of its 500 staff leave.
