CIM appoints Anne Godfrey as CEO

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has appointed Anne Godfrey, currently head of the Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC), as its new chief executive.

Anne Godfrey

Godfrey has previously held similar leadership roles at the Law Society and business lobbying organisation the CBI, as well as marketing positions for professional publishing companies.

The CIM’s acting chief executive, James Sutton, will return to his previous role as director of strategic development at the organisation when Godfrey joins in the summer.

Andrew Harvey, chair of the CIM, says: “[Anne] has a strong record of working within professional organisations and brings a wealth of experience in membership bodies and beyond.

“She has a great understanding of marketing, so is ideally placed to lead us as we continue our growth in what is our 101st year in representing and supporting the marketing profession.”

The CIM has recently been urging marketing departments to merge with sales divisions or risk damaging revenue growth.

The rallying call sparked a debate amongst marketing professionals, most rejecting the idea but agreeing on the need for greater alignment between marketing and all departments in a company to maintain sales performance.

‘Inconsistent tone of voice will damage brands’

Seb Joseph

Brands need to put the same effort into creating a unique “tone of voice” for the language used in call centres and on bills as they do for advertising campaigns or risk creating a disconnect that could hit sales, according to brand language experts.
