City & Guilds, the main provider of vocational training courses in the UK, is looking for a new head of group marketing after incumbent Joanna Causon resigned to join Brandsmiths, the brand consultancy which has been advising the qualifications body since 2001.

Under Causon, City & Guilds embarked on a root-and-branch rebranding exercise, which saw the appointment of integrated agency Archibald Ingall Stretton (AIS) to handle the body’s first advertising campaign, with a &£1.5m budget (MW September 2, 2002).

It is understood that Causon’s departure will not affect the relationship with AIS. Causon is a former head of brand at Norwich Union.

Brandsmiths was founded in 1999 by Pam Robertson and Chris Cleaver, who had been at Interbrand, and Kevin Thompson, formerly of Greymatter. Andrew Summers, formerly chief executive of The Design Council, joined as chairman at the end of 2003.
