Classic FM chooses More Group boss to oversee sales

Radio group GWR’s sales house Opus has poached More Group executive Nigel Clarkson to be Classic FM group head.

Clarkson joined GWR this week. He has been More Group sales manager, agency and specialist, since March last year.

He takes over the position vacated by Simon Daglish, who was promoted to Classic FM sales director last year. Clarkson will report to Daglish.

“Clarkson is joining Classic FM at a time of unprecedented growth over the past year. He will play a key role in continuing our development, particularly our consultative approach to agency sales,” says Daglish.

Before More Group, Clarkson was group head at Adshel. He joined the company as a graduate in 1995.

GWR has this week taken a 20 per cent stake in the privately-owned, Wrexham-based Marcher Radio group of stations, which comprises The Buzz 97.1FM, Champion FM 103, Coast FM 96.3, Marcher Gold 1260 AM and MFM 103.4.

As part of the deal, Opus, will take over national sales for Marcher Radio’s five stations.

The move follows rumours last year that GWR was considering a bid for Marcher Radio.
