Classic FM to expand into book publishing

Classic FM is extending its brand into publishing with the launch of the Classic FM Pocket Book of Music next month.

The book, which has been written by Classic FM managing editor Darren Henley and creative director Tim Lihoreau, is the start of a new partnership between music publisher Boosey & Hawkes and the station, owned by GWR Group. It is understood that this will be the first of a number of joint projects.

The Pocket Book of Music is a reference book about the music played on Classic FM, rather than general classical music. It covers 125 music topics including information on musical eras as well as individual composers and musicians. It will be available from bookshops and through Classic FM.

Henley says Classic FM has been working to give the station a definitive sound, and that the book will help to support that strategy. The launch will receive on-air and online support and a print campaign will run in the Classic FM Magazine.

The move into publishing is part of a strategy to extend the Classic FM brand across a number of platforms. These already include TV programming, CDs, a monthly magazine and a website. Classic FM is the UK’s biggest national commercial radio station with more than 6.5 million listeners (Rajar).
