Clydesdale to be md at Carlsberg

Carlsberg-Tetley (C-T) has promoted head of marketing and take-home sales Doug Clydesdale to the newly created role of managing director for brands and sales.

Clydesdale will take on responsibility for all marketing activities and the sales divisions of both the onand off-trade businesses. The restructure follows the early retirement of Bernie Ray, managing director of the on-trade business.

Clydesdale joined C-T as marketing director four years ago from KP, where he was managing director of the crisps division. His responsibilities were extended to the off-trade business a year later.

He says: “The business has shown good growth in recent years and has benefited significantly from being part of the Carlsberg Group.”

Advertising for C-T’s brands, which include Carlsberg and Tetley’s Bitter, is handled by Saatchi & Saatchi. Zenith Media holds the media buying and planning account.

Clydesdale has been behind a number of high-profile sponsorship deals for the C-T’s brands. Carlsberg was the official sponsor of the European football championship in 2000 and, in October this year, he extended Tetley’s Bitter sponsorship of rugby league’s premier competition, the Super League, for another three years (MW October 11).
