Coca-Cola Great Britain launches an advertising campaign

Coca-Cola Great Britain launches an advertising campaign later this month featuring the ’Chihuahua’ song, which has swept the European pop charts this summer. The ad, developed by the Madrid office of McCann-Erickson, breaks on September 26 and features a busker on a subway train playing a downbeat blues melody. After a sip of Coke he breaks into the Chihuahua song and encourages the passengers to sing and dance. The song dates back to the Thirties, but after Coke used it in Spain it was released by various pop groups and topped the charts in various European countries, including France and Belgium. Two different versions of the song are being readied by rival record companies for release in the UK. Meanwhile, model and actress Caprice has signed up to front a Diet Coke promotion which will offer the chance to attend a Hollywood movie premiere.
