Cocktail gains student discount card brief

National Union of Students Services has appointed Cocktail Marketing to handle its partnership marketing account. Cocktail will work on the 2009/10 NUS Extra card.

The agency won the account after pitching against undisclosed agencies. It has been tasked with creating promotional brand partnerships that will reward NUS Extra cardholders with discounts and exclusive offers.

The NUS Extra card costs £10 and offers university students a selection of discounts with high street and online retailers. The card was introduced in 2006, replacing a previous card offered free to students enrolling at universities.

The card is supported on the NUS website, which was revamped last September. Digital communications agency Code Computerlove created the new site, which brought together the NUS and NUS Services in one site for the first time. University students can apply for their NUS Extra card online and upload photos using webcams.

Last year, the NUS Extra student discount card generated over £1.3m worth of sales, with 145,000 cards sold.
