Comet appoints social media agency

Comet, the electricals retailer owned by Kesa Electricals has appointed Jam, i-level’s social media unit, to handle its social media account.

This is the first time Comet will use social media in its marketing as the chain has previously focussed on price led advertising.

Jam won the contract after a four-way pitch with three other undisclosed agencies. The brief includes handling reputation management and buzz research.

Alex Miller, Head of Jam adds, “We’re thrilled to be working with Comet. It’s an exciting brand, and a massive opportunity for the retailer to demonstrate its commitment to customers and communities online. “

In October Comet called a review of its UK advertising account and shortlisted several agencies including incumbent Saatchi & Saatchi, which has held the account since 1995.

Comet operates 250 stores in the UK.
