Commercial chief scoops top SMG role

Scottish Media Group, owner of Scottish Television and Grampian, has promoted former commercial controller Heather Hughes to commercial director, broadcasting.

She fills a post left vacant since her predecessor Donald Emslie was made managing director of the broadcasting division in November.

Hughes’s main responsibilities will involve liaising directly with advertisers and managing SMG’s relationship with United News & Media’s TV sales house TSMS, which handles sales for Scottish Television and Grampian outside Scotland.

SMG’s sales house in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, Television Sales Scotland (TSS), sells the two TV stations to the Scottish agency and advertiser community.

Emslie, who has been covering the commercial director’s role in the interim, says in a staff memo that Hughes will “become a senior member of the Broadcasting Division Management Team”.

Hughes previously worked for the now defunct sales house TVMM.
