The Bradford & Bingley brand is to live on after Comparethemarket.com owner BGL Group bought its home and motor insurance business.

Junction, the affinity arm of the BGL, has bought a ten-year brand licence to use the Bradford & Bingley name.

Bradford & Bingley was nationalised in 2008 after being hit by bad debts in its buy-to-let business. Santander bought its 200 branches and savings book and subsequently rebranded the business under its name.

Junction says that home and motor insurance products will continue to be offered under the Bradford & Bingley brand to new and existing customers, both direct and via price comparison sites.

Junction has handled Bradford & Bingley’s motor and home insurance business since 2003 so the move is a “natural step”, according to Bradford & Bingley’s commercial director Andy Wiggans.

“Importantly, the process will be seamless to our customers and their policy terms will not be affected.”
