Conde Nast to launch its first UK iPhone app

Condé Nast is to launch city guides apps for title Condé Nast Traveller, covering Rome, New York, Barcelona and Paris for the UK.

The £5.99 app, a first for Condé Nast UK, will feature original content including information on where to stay, what to see and provide audio-guided walks. The guides will launch later this month.

The app will include recommendations from commentators such as Alain de Botton and designers Anya Hindmarch and Paul Smith, and will be updated quarterly.

Condé Nast plans to roll out apps for other titles including GQ later this year, which will be advertiser-funded. The publisher plans to test both advertiser-funded and paid-for models before looking at iPhone and iPad apps for its other titles, which include Vogue and Glamour magazines.

Emanuela Pignataro, country manager for Condé Nast digital Britain says: “Reflecting the brand values of the magazine, this is a natural extension for audiences that are connected, media savvy and want to arrive in a city armed with knowledge.”

Condé Nast Traveller magazine will promote apps in its July issue, out on Thursday.

This follows the relaunch of the CNTraveller.com website in December. The brand will launch in India in the autumn, following the entry of Vogue and GQ into the country in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
