Dealing with downturns
Despite the unexpected growth in May, the diagnosis for the UK’s economic health looks grim. Last week, the Office for National Statistics reported output grew in May, news that was mitigated bluntly this week by fresh forecasts of a 40-year high for inflation and a report from UBS that showed 99% of workers feel worse off. And this is before the increase in the energy bills cap due at the end of August.
