Corgi marketing boss quits for consultancy

Toy manufacturer Corgi is searching for a marketing director following the departure of Lisa Thompson.

Marketing manager Alex McLeod has stepped into the role temporarily while the company looks for a new marketing chief.

Thompson is joining Managment Science Corporation (MSc), a brand-led management service provider, where she will be in charge of a new South-west office. MSc provides a brand consultancy service for businesses, using external expertise.

Thompson became marketing director at Corgi in 2002, having taken over from Angus McLeod (MW August 29, 2002).

During her time at Corgi, she has overseen several campaigns, focusing on Corgi’s pre-school interests, such as Noddy, and acquiring new licenses, such as Postman Pat and the Little Red Tractor, both of which will be launched in April.She has also been involved with the company’s classic Batman line, which will be launched this summer.

Before Christmas, Corgi ran its first television campaign in ten years, pushing its Mr Spark’s Garage range of toys.

The company specialises in die-cast collectibles and is best known for its James Bond model car line. It recently added a model of the Aston Martin Vanquish, which was featured in the James Bond film, Die Another Day, to its range.


Pearson reports ad revenie slump

Pearson, owner of the Financial Times, has reported a slump in advertising revenues of 15 per cent last year and an increase in operating losses from &£23m to &£32m at the newspaper. Pearson itself reported pre-tax profits of &£152m compared with a loss of &£25m in 2002.
