Lee Daley, the former Saatchi & Saatchi chief executive, has left Manchester United Football Club after just four months as commercial director.

His departure is understood to be “by mutual consent” and it is not thought that he has a role to go to. He joined the club for his “dream job” in mid-April with a place on the board after Andy Anson stepped down.

Daley joined Saatchi & Saatchi in October 2004 where he spent two years restructuring the agency and adding departments including the branded entertainment division Gum. But his departure came at the same time the agency fell out of the top ten billings for the first time in 30 years.

He was previously at HHCL/Red Cell, part of the WPP network, where he was co-chief executive. He is also a former executive vice-president of McCann Ericsson Europe.
