The daughter of BBC director general John Birt has been hired as advertising manager at the New Millennium Experience Company.
Eliza Birt joins the NMEC from J.Walter Thompson where she was an account manager.
It is understood she will have day-to-day responsibility for the 16m ad account held by M&C Saatchi but reports to commercial director Kevin Johnson, who is seeking up to 30 marketers to create a department (MW January 15).
The NMEC is in talks with broadcasters including both ITV and the BBC to cover the December 31 1999 celebration and other events in the Dome during the year 2000.
John Birt worked with Minister without Portfolio Peter Mandelson at LWT in the Eighties.
