Dead ringer is not the real McCoy

The ancient art of Meatloaf impersonation has come under the scrutiny of the Advertising Standards Authority.

A row has blown up between two Meatloaf tribute acts over who has the right to call themselves the “official?” Meatloaf (apart presumably, from the great man himself).

The ASA was called in when the first Dead Ringer placed an ad in a magazine, which read “Steve Steinman’s Meatloaf Est. 1989. The only official tribute to Meatloaf”. The complaint came from another Meat act.

Upon investigation, Steinman’s “official” status turned out to be based on nothing more than an e-mail from the Meatloaf fanclub and so the complaint was upheld.

Oddly enough – as any pop obsessive will know – Steve Steinman shares a surname with Jim Steinman, Meatloaf’s long-time collaborator and the man behind hits including Bat Out of Hell. Has this man no shame?
