DEFRA drafts Shane Meadows to star in new campaign

defraThe Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, (DEFRA) has drafted in British filmmaker Shane Meadows to create a TV campaign encouraging consumers to be more energy efficient. The move follows the unveiling last week of a £1bn Government package to help cut energy bills.

The ads, airing from today (September 17), will form part of DEFRA’s ongoing “Act on CO2” campaign which launched last year.

The executions have been created in conjunction with Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO. It focuses on a father trying to galvanise everyone in his family reduce their energy use, thereby cutting down bills and CO2 emission.

Statistics from the ACT ON CO2 advice line reveal that since the announcement of the new Government package phone calls have more than quadrupled, with people seeking information on how to take up the offers.

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn says: “Last week we set out assistance to help people cut their energy bills permanently. We now need to do all we can to ensure they take up this help. This advert is part of that drive.”
