Deloitte is launching a 1.7m sponsorship programme for disability sports in the UK in lead up to London 2012.

As part of the initiative Deloitte has been named an official disability sports partner for the Government-funded Talented Athlete

Scholarship Scheme (TASS), which aims to support disabled athletes between the ages of 16 and 35.

The accounting firm has also partnered with UK sporting charity SportsAid to provide individual scholarships to talented disabled athletes taking the overall investment in the scheme to 2m over the next six years.

Deloitte chief executive and senior partner John Connolly says the scheme, which aims to increase participation levels in disability sports across the UK and support emerging sporting talent, will be extended to reach up to 500 athletes.

Deloitte will also launch a new online Disability Sports Institute, which will be run by the British Paralympic Association (BPA), to encourage participation in UK sports and develop talent in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
