Dennis Publishing expands into India

Dennis Publishing has entered a joint venture with South East Asian publisher Media Transasia to help it launch in India. The publishers are keen to tap into the growing media market of 1.1bn consumers.

The venture, Dennis Media Transasia, will initially launch music magazine Blender but is planning more launches over the next six months. It will also explore the possibility of launching digital only magazine brands in India.

The joint venture will be based in the Indian capital New Delhi, with the aim of becoming the largest men’s publisher in the country.

Maxim, the Dennis-owned lads magazine, already exists in the market after being launched by Media Transasia in 2005 under licence. Maxim (India) will remain under the control of Media Transasia for the time being and not part of the joint venture.

James Tye, chief executive of Dennis Publishing (pictured), says: “India is the most dynamic media market in the world and is an obvious choice for our global and digital expansion.

“The rapid international expansion of Dennis Publishing means we now have a strong presence in four of the world’s top 10 economies – the UK, USA, Australia and now India, with more to follow.”
