DHL Global Mail UK managing director John Ivers has left in the middle of the company’s major assault on the deregulated postal market. It is not known if he has a job to go to.

The company is seeking a permanent replacement but Ivers’ role will be overseen by DHL European chief executive Paul Coutts in the interim.

DHL has also reshuffled its marketing department with the appointment of Rose Nave, who joins from DHL in Germany, as marketing director. She replaces Andy Barrett, who becomes head of product and solutions. Nave will report to Coutts until a full-time managing director is appointed.

DHL Global Mail is now the consumer-facing brand for all Deutsche Post World Net’s businesses following a rebrand at the start of 2005.

In April last year, the company opened its first distribution centre outside London as part of its plans to be a national network rivalling Royal Mail for business post. DHL is one of eight postal operators licensed to handle UK mail, and already has a contract to use Royal Mail’s delivery network.

Similar arrangements were also made with other licensed carriers ahead of the introduction of full competition, which started in January this year. But DHL hopes that by building its own network for business-to-business deliveries it can guarantee a faster, more reliable service than the national carrier.

Earlier this year, DHL handed its marketing account to Harrison Troughton Wunderman ahead of an increased focus on brand awareness and direct marketing following deregulation.
