British Market Research Bureau research for Britain’s leading Internet service provider Freeserve suggests the number of UK consumers shopping online could rise by half in the run-up to Christmas. BMRB estimates suggest 4.8 million consumers shop online, but another 2.4 million say they plan to shop online by December 25. Top of the categories attracting potential Yuletide shoppers are CDs, books, gifts, alcohol and toys. The survey coincides with the launch of Freeserve’s Christmas shopping area (www.freeserve.net/shopping/about.htm).
