Penny Boys has been appointed deputy director-general of the Office of Fair Trading. Boys is secretary to the Competition Commission and was previously the first deputy director-general at the Office of Electricity Regulation when it was set up in 1989.

Asda this week begins its court battle to stop price fixing of over-the-counter pharmaceuticals by multinationals. The retailer will attend the restrictive practices court hearing to claim that elderly people and parents of young children have been ‘ripped off’ by £1.5bn in the past five years. The case is expected to last a month.
