Van Melle, Dutch owner of the Mentos mint and Fruit-tella sweet brands, has acquired Fundy – a Hungarian company specialising in chocolate and sugar confectionery. The deal strengthens Van Melle’s presence in central Europe and adds to recent acquisitions including Wybert and Candy Tech.

Jurys Doyle Hotel Group of Ireland has revealed plans to spend up to £80m on UK acquisitions. This week it announced a 64 per cent increase in pre-tax profits to £17.8m in the six months until October 31, 1999.
