The French courts have fined German sportswear company Adidas E2.4m (&£1.5m) for anti-competitive practices. Adidas had gained an exclusive contract with the French football league to provide first division teams with equipment, which led to complaints from rivals Nike and Umbro and, subsequently, to the court action. Adidas has said it will now focus on just a few of the leading teams.
