Halifax director of marketing services Judy Atchison is leaving after the special general meeting in February. The meeting is likely to approve the flotation of the building society next year. A replacement has not been found. Two weeks ago Halifax Life marketing director Mike Cherry resigned after a restructure of the financial services division.

Motorola (right) has hired a senior consumer marketer from tobacco giant BAT to head its UK cellular phone advertising and marketing operations. Patrick Mulligan, senior brand manager for Benson & Hedges, has joined Motorola’s cellular subscriber division as brand marketing manager for the UK and Ireland. He replaces Janet Seward, who takes up a marketing role in Europe…

Mondex, the electronic cash payment system, has emerged as the favoured financial services partner for the Shell Smartcard consortium, although the partners are still in negotiations with other candidates.

Marc Mathieu, managing director for Danone-owned Premier Waters, which produces Evian, Volvic and Badoit, is leaving to take a management post at Coca-Cola in Manila, Phillippines.

The Department of Transport has given motor manufacturers until March 21 to respond to proposals for ending the August number-plate change.
