Thierry Leray has resigned his position as board director of CIA Medianetwork International to join media start-up Request. The venture has developed a trading platform aimed at offering merchandising services to the financial and travel sectors, operating sites through online ‘electronic malls’.

Simon Lay has been promoted to sponsorship manager at sales house TSMS. He will handle networked and regional ITV sponsorship for TSMS customers, plus the development of cross-media sponsorships for United News & Media Group. He reports to TSMS sponsorship director Tim Brady.

HP Bulmer, the cider maker, is reviewing its media as well as creative business out of J Walter Thompson. JWT held the full-service account for brands such as Strongbow, Woodpecker and Scrumpy Jack.

Cartoon Network, the cable and satellite station, is to spend 650,000 on a two-week cinema and Adshel campaign to boost aware-ness and viewing figures for the channel. The Adshel campaign, breaking on November 3, has been created by Mustoe Merriman Herring & Levy, while the cinema campaign has been produced in-house by producer Brett Foraker.

Parfums Christian Dior UK is to quadruple the circulation of its customer magazine Dior to 200,000 copies through its contractor Atom Publishing. The magazine, which launched in May 1997, will extend distribution using a mailing database of 150,000 from January 1998, on top of the existing in-store outlets.

Virgin Megastores is part-funding a UK tour of indie bands, starting this week at student venues. The tour is being covered by satellite music station MTV UK. Virgin Megastores will receive on-air credits for its sponsorship, as well as running on-site promotions during the tour.

Andersen Consulting is to sponsor CNN International’s new 30-minute feature programme, Pinnacle Europe, which launches on November 2. The programme will be aired weekly and then repeated twice each week.

IDG Media is to launch The Web, a consumer Internet-themed title, on October 23. It will compete against EMAP’s Internet and Future’s .net magazines.

Adshel has appointed a new general manager for its Scotland operation – former general manager at Moreton Sports Media Julia Crosthwaite.

Kevin Attridge has been promoted to head of sales at SouthBank’s weekly, science and special interest titles. Cathy Neale has been promoted to head of sales for leisure, music and sport at the IPC-owned magazine publisher.
