The appointment comes as Game prepares to start a review of its advertising business. The retailer is conducting consumer research ahead of calling a review, which will be handled by the AAR. It hopes to appoint an agency to the separate £1.5m advertising account by July.

Digitas is working on an overhaul of the retailer’s portfolio of websites, including game.co.uk, its e-commerce site, and Australian, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Scandinavian portals. It will also develop an online communications strategy for the company to build sales.

The Game Group operates over 400 stores in the UK and Ireland, with concess-ions in Debenhams, Hamley’s, Selfridges and Fenwick.

The company is planning a European expansion drive this year and is looking to open more stores in the UK, Spain and Sweden.

The group’s turnover rose to £1.49bn from £801m for the year to the end of January 2008. Its operating profit was up to £75.2m from £33m a year ago, with growth mostly driven by software sales.
