Described as a ‘Fitbit for cars’, Dash’s connected car product is a combination of app and in-car hardware that monitors driving, as well as vehicle health.

Co-founders Jamyn Edis, who is also CEO, and chief technology officer Brian Langel both worked at HBO before launching Dash and created tech projects involving smart TV and video search. The company has raised $1.9m in three rounds of funding. In 2015, Dash announced that it would be branching out into small trucker fleets (10 vehicles or less) and insight services through Dash XL and Dash IQ.

The company worked in partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation to trial the programme with 400 selected drivers to help them save money and time, as well as drive more safely. At the time of the trial, it is said 250,000 drivers were already using Dash across the US.
