Public.io

Public.io was launched in April 2017 by Daniel Korski, the former deputy head of the Prime Minister’s policy unit, and investor Alexander de Carvelho. Korski had become frustrated at seeing money wasted on large IT contracts, and vowed to help more startups solve public problems, allowing new technologies to be implemented in the public sector to deliver better and cheaper public services.

The company’s team includes ex-Tech City UK director of strategy Caroline Makepeace, former Google and government data scientist Calvin Dudek, and Camden councillor and digital proponent Theo Blackwell.

Public.io’s first programme, GovStart, works with startups over a six-month period to understand how they can engage with, sell into and transform public services.

Its advisory board includes Mark Dearnley, former chief technology officer at HMRC, and Mustafa Suleyman, founder of Google DeepMind. The company is backed by a number of private investors, as well as corporate partners, including AWS, Mishcon de Reya and PWC.
