Smarter

Tapping into the power of the internet of things (IoT), Smarter co-founders Christian and Isabella Lane created a Wi-Fi connected kettle in 2013 before branching out.

Connecting via smartphone app, the iKettle lets users control the temperature of the water, set timers and see how much water is inside.

After initially being sold on online gadget store Firebox, the product soon attracted the attention of John Lewis, Currys and PC World. Following expansion into Europe in 2015, Smarter took its IoT products to the US in January 2016 after successfully showcasing its designs at a trade show in Las Vegas.

Since then Smarter has launched its third generation range, including the FridgeCam, with US retailers Target and Best Buy among the stockists.

So far the business has grown without any outside funding, but external investment might be needed as the business continues to expand internationally.
